5-in-1 Laser Welding Machine: A Complete Introduction 1. What Is a 5-in-1 Laser Welding Machine?

5-in-1 laser welding machine is a multi-functional industrial tool that integrates five distinct processing capabilities into a single compact unit. Designed for modern metal fabrication workshops, this machine combines laser welding with auxiliary processes such as laser cleaning, wire feeding welding, cutting, and pulse spot welding — all accessible through a single handheld laser gun and control system.

Unlike traditional welding setups that require separate equipment for each task, the 5-in-1 system eliminates the need for multiple workstations, saving floor space, reducing capital expenditure, and streamlining workflow.

2. The Five Functions Explained

#

Function

Description

1

Handheld Laser Welding

Continuous wave (CW) laser welding for seamless joining of metal sheets, plates, and components. Suitable for stainless steel, carbon steel, aluminum, copper, and more.

2

Laser Cleaning

High-energy pulsed laser beam removes rust, paint, oil stains, and oxide layers from metal surfaces without chemicals or abrasives.

3

Wire Feeding Welding

Auto-feed filler wire mechanism for thicker plates and gap-bridging applications, delivering deeper penetration and stronger joints.

4

Laser Cutting

Precision cutting of thin to medium-thickness metal sheets with minimal heat-affected zone and clean edges.

5

Pulse Spot Welding

Precise spot welding for battery tabs, electronic components, jewelry, and thin-gauge applications where minimal heat input is critical.

2.1 Handheld Laser Welding

The core function. The operator holds a lightweight laser gun and guides the beam along the joint. The process produces deep, narrow welds with excellent penetration and minimal distortion. Welding speeds can reach 3–5 times that of traditional TIG welding.

Suitable materials:

  • Stainless steel (304, 316, 201)

  • Carbon steel (mild steel, Q235)

  • Aluminum and aluminum alloys (1060, 3003, 5052, 6061)

  • Copper and brass

  • Galvanized steel

  • Titanium (with proper gas shielding)

2.2 Laser Cleaning

Using a pulsed laser beam, the machine ablates surface contaminants layer by layer. Unlike sandblasting or chemical cleaning, laser cleaning is:

  • Non-contact — no damage to the base material

  • Chemical-free — no hazardous waste or solvent disposal

  • Precision-controlled — can remove rust without affecting intact paint nearby

Common cleaning tasks: Weld seam preparation (removing oxide layer before welding), mold cleaning, antique restoration, metal surface degreasing, paint removal.

2.3 Wire Feeding Welding

When welding thicker plates (typically >3mm) or bridging gaps, filler wire is essential. The wire feeder automatically delivers wire into the weld pool at a user-set speed (typically 0–6 m/min). This function enables:

  • Welding plates up to 8–10mm in a single pass

  • Gap filling on ill-fitting joints

  • Enhanced weld strength for structural applications

  • Multi-layer welding for thicker sections

Common wire types: ER308L, ER316L (stainless); ER70S-6 (carbon steel); ER4043, ER5356 (aluminum).

2.4 Laser Cutting

In cutting mode, the laser beam melts through the material while an assist gas (oxygen, nitrogen, or compressed air) blows away the molten material. The result is a clean cut edge with minimal burr.

Typical cutting capacity (1500W–3000W source):

Material

Max Thickness

Mild steel

6–12 mm

Stainless steel

4–8 mm

Aluminum

3–6 mm

Galvanized sheet

Up to 3 mm

2.5 Pulse Spot Welding

In pulse mode, the laser delivers short, high-energy bursts to create individual weld spots. This is ideal for:

  • Battery tab welding (lithium-ion battery packs)

  • Electronic component lead attachment

  • Jewelry and watch repair

  • Thin foil and wire joining (<0.5mm thickness)

  • Mold crack repair and die spot welding

3. How Does It Work?

The core of a 5-in-1 laser welding machine is a fiber laser source (typically 1000W to 3000W)
